Crypto safety: networks, custody and withdrawal checks

Separate trading fees, transfer risks and custody arrangements before moving an asset.

Identify the service and entity

An exchange trading account, a broker conversion service and a self-custody wallet are different products. A group brand may operate through several entities. Verify the relevant entity and service permissions for the country; a registration for one activity does not automatically cover derivatives or every token. A proof-of-reserves claim is not the same as a complete financial-statement audit.

Check both sides of a transfer

The receiving asset, network and any required memo or tag must match the sending instruction. A familiar ticker alone is not enough. Check minimum credit amounts and whether deposits are currently supported. A small test can reduce the amount exposed to an address mistake, but it does not prove the custody safety or future reliability of a service.

Worked example: net amount after a network fee

Suppose a withdrawal instruction sends 100 units and the platform deducts a 1-unit fee from that amount. The recipient may receive 99 units. Another interface may quote 100 units received and debit 101. Read which convention the preview uses. If a receiving service requires a minimum of 100 units, sending an amount that arrives as 99 can fail its credit threshold.

Keep conversion and withdrawal costs separate

A trading commission, bid/ask spread, conversion markup, fiat processing fee and network withdrawal fee belong on different lines. A low maker fee does not describe the price of an instant-buy transaction. Fiat deposits can have withdrawal holds even when the balance is available to trade. Compare the final preview for the selected route rather than relying on a promotional headline.

Protect recovery material and account access

Recovery phrases and private keys confer control over a self-custody wallet. Do not disclose them to a support agent, website form or unsolicited message. For a custodial account, use the service’s supported authentication and withdrawal controls and maintain recovery access. A convincing chat, copied logo or search advertisement is not proof of the official domain.

Exercise and limitations

Write a transfer checklist containing asset, network, address, memo, minimum, fee, expected net amount and hold period. Explain who controls the keys in the service selected. This guide cannot verify the solvency of an exchange or recover a mistaken transfer. Review the specific entity and current withdrawal conditions in the linked profiles.
